Racker Rivals Big Red 2022 (July 16)
On July 16th, the 8th Annual Racker Rivals Big Red Hockey Game will be presented at Lynah Rink. This unique community event will include alumni from Cornell’s men’s and women’s teams, Cornell hockey coaches, Olympians, hockey celebrities, and local players from the community – all gathering to raise awareness and funds for Racker’s early childhood programs. In 2019 the game drew a crowd of over 2,500 people and raised over $135,000 for Racker’s programs. In 2021, in the midst of a pandemic, we raised over $170,000. This year, we anticipate breaking the $1 million raised mark, and we would love your support in achieving that huge milestone!
This unique community event will garner much attention. The communities that we live and work in hold a special place for hockey, and the games pull fans from all over central New York and the southern tier. Racker has been serving the region for almost 75 years and is humbled to enjoy a great reputation for providing critical services for many in the region.
The Racker Rivals Big Red Hockey Game will take place this summer at Cornell University’s Lynah Rink. Two teams will be formed with approximately 15 players per team, with talent equally divided between the two teams. Community members will be able to make pledges online for each player on the teams.
Last year we livestreamed the game to ensure that everyone could participate, even those that do not feel comfortable with in-person events. We will once again present a livestream in 2022, as well as compile a highlights reel with recorded footage post-game. One thing we learned in 2020 is that virtual programming can be both successful and compelling. We have carried that knowledge into 2022 with a livestream that will be accessible to those who wish to attend but cannot.
